Earth Hour 2013

Taken from the WWF Media release

We Are All Connected

Exactly 2 days from now, homes, businesses, community groups, schools, iconic landmarks and cities across the planet will take part in the world’s largest public action for the environment – WWF’s Earth Hour. This global mass participation movement encourages people all over the world to turn off their lights for one hour in a symbolic gesture to pledge their commitment to doing something positive for the planet.

“There is special power in Earth Hour’s bold simplicity, a moment shared in darkness,” says MornĂ© du Plessis, CEO of WWF South Africa. “Many people care about our environment, but feel overwhelmed by the enormity of what we can do. Earth Hour is not about saving electricity for an hour. It’s an opportunity for all of us to come together to celebrate, reflect on our actions and impact, and make a renewed commitment to preserving our planet. We are all connected, and we must remember that our individual actions make a collective difference!”

Haddock Chowder

Easter weekend, as usual, signified the start of winter with a great big, windy, rainy storm that had the whole of Cape Town talking about the weather....again and meant I could officially start making soup. I never want to start too early as it seems I'm too eager for the cold weather but there's nothing better on a cold day than a bowl of warming, creamy, delicious soup. Naturally soup that includes fish is even better. This Haddock Chowder is quick, easy and economical and is ready in 40minutes. It also uses my undyed real smoked Haddock of which I am very proud.

Earth Hour 2012

31 March 2012, 7.30 - 8.30 : Earth Hour 2012

To be honest, due to fishing schedules, family commitments and plenty of wine, we skipped Saturday's Earth hour and observed it instead on Sunday from 4pm till, judging by Monday morning's tiredness, well into the night. Family and friends gathered in a cosy courtyard, sheltered from the wind, lit by candle light and enjoyed good food and each others company.

Thai Style Fish Curry

I love Thai curry but am intimidated by the long lists of ingredients and never have everything on hand when I feel like cooking. I was therefore very excited when Matt Alison (http://www.imnojamieoliver.com/) shared a recipes with some customers at the Starlings cafe in Claremont. The recipe was passed on by Hayley Evers-King who prepared it at last years National Marine week awareness cook off at the Waterfront. To read more click here: sciencesightseeingandsustenance
